FALL PROTECTION FOR ELECTRIC AND TELECOMM UTILITIES
(OPERATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION)
Three-day Seminar - February 9-12, 2009 in Toronto, ON.
ABOUT THIS SEMINAR
This seminar is of special interest for managers, transmission and distribution lines engineers (designers and operators), transformer stations and switchyards maintainers, generating plant safety personnel, supervisors, safety officers, technicians, foremen, crew leaders, members of JHSCs, active members of utility safety associations, government authorities, members of armed forces and all others responsible for power generation, and for constructing and operating telecomm and electric power lines. The first seminar day of intro to fall protection will be followed by two days of applications of modern fall protection equipment and systems. Some of the latter are capable of dramatic improvements in work efficiency and in user friendliness/acceptance. Several alternative fall protection methods and related equipment will be discussed.
OUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
- Falls cannot be eliminated as the gravity is with us to stay.
- Fall fatalities are 100% preventable, but injuries may not be.
- Utilities are in business to generate profits and safety must be cost efficient.
- Utility personnel and particulary linemen, and climbing telecomm techs have extremely demanding jobs, utilities invest millions in their training and all fall protection systems must be acceptable to the trade.
For an overall Seminar Program see below.
The Seminar will be conducted in cooperation (reflected on the Certificate) with the Canadian Standards Association at the CSA offices at 5060 Spectrum Way in Mississauga (10min from the Toronto International Airport). A shuttle will be available from the nearest hotels.
The seminar primary speaker, Andrew C. Sulowski, P.Eng. worked as a Senior Specialist - Fall Protection in charge of the OHT Centre fo Fall Protection in Toronto from 1977 to 1997. He was also a consultant and advisor to utilities in USA, Finland, New Zealand, and China. He consulted to provincial governments in Canada and to OSHA (Washington, DC). After implementing modern fall protection his employer did not suffer single fall fatality for 18 years. Andrew has been working continuously in fall protection for the past 31 years and is an internationally recognized expert in this field. Two out of the three books on fall protection in English carry his name. The International Society for Fall protection (Seattle, WA) has in 2003 established Andrew Sulowski Award for Excellence in Fall Protection.
